Most people consider LJN to be the worst licensed company on the NES, and that most to all of their tie-in games were horrible. In my opinion, I would argue more that THQ was a far worse licensed company, often making poor games based on oft-forgettable cartoons like "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes".
In defense of LJN, I do think most of their games are pretty good, albeit nowhere to the level of far better games from Nintendo, Konami, or Capcom. Back to the Future isn't as bad as most make it out to be. Yes, the walking levels have little bearing on the film, but the stages following do hold some bearing to the film. Jaws is short, but controls well enough, and is pretty fun. Nightmare on Elm Street is challenging, but a well put together platformer by Rare. And Terminator 2, while short, actually plays well, and does follow the film well enough (Even having you shoot enemies in the legs as the T-800 wasn't to kill anyone).
As for the worst, I'd say Back to the Future Parts II and III is a mess of a platformer, as is Beetlejuice. And Bill and Ted is almost unplayable as it's not just annoyingly hard, but also boring and easy to get lost in.
But those are my thoughts of course. What's your consensus on LJN as a whole?

I've not had all that bad of an experience with LJN myself. Of course, that may change by the time we are done with more of them on the podcast. Like you said, they don't stack up with the powerhouse studios like Nintendo and Capcom, but they more than hold their own against similar opponents. And they are certainly not the worst studio on the NES.

I have not had much experience with them yet, but I can say this: Jaws is playable and X-men is awful.

Jaws is playable and X-men is awful. I like Jaws mainly for nostalgia reasons. Never played X-Men.
